After law school, Tom Cella spent one year as a law clerk for the Connecticut Superior Court prior to joining Howard, Kohn, Sprague & FitzGerald in 1984.  He became a partner in 1991.  Attorney Cella maintains a diverse litigation caseload which includes the representation of individuals, corporations and municipalities in all phases of trial practice.   His primary practice is in personal injury litigation where he represents plaintiffs as well as defendants.

Attorney Cella is an accomplished Mediator and Arbitrator and frequently is chosen to hear civil cases.  He is a member of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals.  He also serves as a Special Master for the United States District Court, District of Connecticut and as an Arbitrator and Fact Finder for the Connecticut Superior Court assisting parties in the resolution and settlement of pending civil matters.

Attorney Cella has tried over 65 jury cases to verdict. Attorney Cella has been elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national organization of the top trial lawyers in the country representing both plaintiffs and defendants.  Tom has also been recognized by Connecticut Super Lawyers and is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the fields of personal injury, product liability and medical malpractice litigation.  Attorney Cella has received the highest rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell. *

Tom’s Professional Associations and Memberships include the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), Member/Advocate, the American Association for Justice, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association and the Hartford County and Manchester Bar Associations. Tom has also been admitted to the Mohegan Gaming Disputes Court in 2014, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2021 as well as the Mashantucket Tribal Court in 2021
